Ep. 178 - One Dozen Bat (or Owl) Wings!

This week Netflix doubles down on their Ted Bundy offerings, we no longer have to wonder Y The Last Man isn't already a TV show, we celebrate George Romero on his birthday, we talk about that important DC comics event from 1988, Batman: A Death In The Family and how Batman's loss was driven by reader choice, and Steve asks Paul a lot of loosely based questions surrounding the Super Bowl. 

Ep. 177 - The Year of Cannon: The Apple!

We start off our Year of Cannon in style, well in a style of sorts, as we look at the science fiction/dicso pop mash up musical from 1980, The Apple. We do the BIM and wear our BIM marks so as not to get ticketed by the BIM police as we talk about Menahmen Golan's unique vision of the future... of 1994. Grab your glitter, hop into your bubble domed car, and drive off into heaven with us as we try to understand what The Apple is made of!

Ep. 176 - Overlook-ed!

This week we do manly things like shoveling snow and eating chili, we discuss the Oscar nominations, Viacom buying Pluto (the internet TV service, not the planet), a man getting very upset about his wife possibly touching his action figures, we revisit what many people consider to be a horror masterpiece, Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, and see if we can approach it with a different perspective, and to celebrate National Compliment Day, we force ourselves to say nice things about stuff we don't like. 

Ep. 175 - Bandersnatched!

This week Steve can only see the color Breen from now on, we are sad that we can't be excited about a new Ghostbusters film being made, we are excited a new Spider-Man film is coming out soon, we say happy birthday to John Carpenter, we question the nature of choice as we talk about the interactive event that is Black Mirror's Bandersnatch, and Paul makes the perfect video game. 

Ep. 174 - Invasion 2: Electric Boogaloo!

This week we are joined by special guests El Goro of the Talk Without Rhythm Podcast and Kevin of the Strange Highways podcast as we talk about Batman Beyond turning 20, M. Night Shyamalan having a plan all along, learning that chicken tenders are better when seasoned on asphalt, and we kick off our Year of Cannon by discussing the documentary Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films, and we play a game about real or fake mystery box subscriptions. 

 

Ep. 173 - Year of the Knock Off: Mac and Me!

This week we wrap up the Year of the Knock Off and 2018 with a look at one of the most successful films of all time, 1982's E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial. And then we dig into weirdly competent and incompetent at the exact same time 1988 film, Mac and Me. You will believe that a kid riding a bicycle will fly and you will stare in horror as kid in a wheel chair goes flying... off a hillside and into a lake.

Bonus: We talk about our Christmas goings on and wrap up the Year of the Knock Off with a final ranking of the 12 films we watched this year. 

 

Ep. 172 - The Other Saturday Night Slasher!

This week we talk about seeing some spider-people in the theater and some mean people on the internet, the Hellboy trailer looks fun but not that different than what we had gotten previously, George Lucas being the richest celebrity in America, The Carlton suing The Fornite, we interview artist Ryan Kacsandy, Steve's better half on The Saturday Night Slasher, and talk about the creative process and the secret origin of their friendship, and we have 12 days of loosely associated holiday trivia. 

Ep. 171 - The Night The Reindeer Died!

This week we talk about the madness of Ikea, meeting Pinhead, the Toxic Avenger getting a reboot with a budget, the Predator getting festive, the strange trips a Lego head will take, we discuss one of our favorite holiday movies, 1988's Scrooged and how the dark and the light of Bill Murray make it stand out, and Steve has to make some hard decisions about who he decides is Naughty, Nice, or to be put on Ice. 

Ep. 170: Happy Life Day!

This week we are joined once again by friend of the show and all around awesome person, Jeff, and talk about the 2 hour feature film format dying, Netflix canceling its Marvel shows, movie theaters up charging for 'the experience,' and we take a look at the bizarre fever dream that was the 1978 CBS Star Wars Holiday Special and wonder if life even makes sense anymore, and Steve whisks us away to the holiday season of 1983 and plays a game of Higher of Lower involving the toy section of the Sears catalog.   

Ep. 169: Year of the Knock Off: Solarbabies!

This week we head out to the not so futuristic wasteland where water is treated as currency and anything you find can be used as a hat as we talk about 1985's Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome and 1986's Solarbabies. One of these films held up a little better than we remembered and the other one is Solarbabies.
